Deep Tissue/Swedish/Sports Massage

Swedish/Classic massage aims to promote relaxation by releasing muscle tension through passive joint movement, long strokes, kneading, tapotement and deep circular movements.  Pressure can be adjusted.

Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief.

These techniques are meant to relax you, reduce stress hormones, stimulate nerve endings, increase blood flow and lymph drainage, improve skin tone and sleep quality.

Deep Tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but it goes deeper into the muscle and is intended for a different purpose.  Deep tissue massage is best suited for athletes, runners and people with injuries.  It can also work for people with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and lower back pain.

Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. It can relieve muscle pain and stiffness, break up scar tissue and provide stress-relieving relaxation for the body and mind.  It can also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.

In order to reach the deep muscle tissue, I will massage layer by layer of muscle, applying more and more pressure and employing special techniques with the fingers, fists, forearms and elbows to reach and stretch the deep tissue.  Trigger point therapy can also be used to treat specific areas of congestion.

Sports Massage is a targeted approach to treating minor and chronic injuries. Using a wide range of techniques including soft and deep tissue massage to realign and loosen muscle fibres derived from sport-related tension and repetitive strain. It can also be used to improve posture and condition an athlete’s body so they can perform their best.
